After skin-contact maceration, the grapes to produce Chardonnay Domaine des Pourthié were pressed and fermentation took place in a temperature controlled vat at temperatures below 15°C. Malolactic conversion of Chardonnay Domaine des Pourthié was prevented resulting in a crisp, fresh style and the wine was then aged on its fine lees for a period of two months adding complexity and texture.
The vines are grown in gravelly clay-limestone soil, which was formed during the Ice Age and is spread with deposits from the old Hérault riverbed.
Domaine de Pourthié is an estate of 60 hectares, situated near Agde, a few kilometres from the Mediterranean. It is now in the hands of the fourth generation of the Pourthié family. The vineyards are located on a ridge formed during the Ice Age, where the soils are gravelly clay and limestone. The Mediterranean warmth and sea breezes combined with the terroir, help to ripen the grapes harmoniously and maximise their aromas. Domaine des Pourthié has recently been updated with modern equipment, leading to more sophisticated methods of vinification. These are classically styled Languedoc wines.
