Chianti Classico DOCG Gran Selezione “Rialzi” 2020 – Tenuta Perano – Frescobaldi

The grapes to produce Chianti Classico Gran Selezione “Rialzi” Tenuta Perano Frescobaldi had a meticulous selection, followed by temperature controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Maceration on the skins allowed excellent polyphenolic extraction prior to gentle pressing. The young Chianti Classico Gran Selezione “Rialzi” Tenuta Perano  Frescobaldi was aged for 24 months in new French oak barrels, followed by further bottle ageing in the cellar, prior to release.

From the single vineyard ‘Rialzi’, where the Sangiovese vines are grown on the steep hillsides of Gaiole with a gradient of 15 to 20 degrees, up to 500 metres elevation. The vines are planted with a southern exposure, in an amphitheatre shaped vineyard which helps to maximise the exposure to the sun and concentrates the heat onto the vines. The topography and altitude keep the vines ventilated; the Tramontana wind blows from the north during the night and daytime breezes approach from the south promoting freshness in the berries. The climate provides warm, dry summers with marked temperature differences in September. This encourages an extended ripening period, concentrating the fruit flavours, while retaining balancing acidity. The soil is notable for its rich stone content and is free draining. The fruit is hand-harvested at optimum maturity.
