To produce Fiano di Avellino “Pietracalda” Feudi di San Gregorio careful selection took place prior to fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures of between 16 to 18°C. This helped to capture all the purity of fruit and varietal characteristics of the Fiano variety. Fiano di Avellino “Pietracalda” Feudi di San Gregorio was then matured for four to five months on its lees, with frequent bâtonnage for a greater texture and complexity. The distinctive bottle has been designed by Massimo Vignelli embracing the wine with elegant fluting.
The finest Fiano grapes have been selected for this wine. The beautiful Feudi di San Gregorio vineyards are spread out over lush and gentle hills in Sorbo Serpico, approximately an hour from Naples and Mount Vesuvius. The soils are volcanic, sandstone and marl. Each vineyard is closely monitored with a meteorological station and combined with the technologies of the new state-of-the-art wine cellar; they ensure that each vintage comes as close to perfection as possible. The soil in the vineyards is predominantly volcanic, which imparts the distinctive minerality to the resulting wine.
One of the main protagonists in the renaissance of Southern Italian wines, Feudi di San Gregorio has carved out a reputation for making truly world-class wines in less than 30 years. Feudi di San Gregorio began in the mid 1980s with the aim of safeguarding local traditions and unlocking the potential of key indigenous grapes such as Fiano, Greco, Falanghina and Aglianico.
