The grapes to produce Malagouzia Single Vineyard Turtles Alpha Estate were destemmed, lightly crushed and then cold soaked with skin contact under controlled conditions. The Malagouzia Single Vineyard Turtles Alpha Estate must was fermented in stainless steel tanks and was then maintained on its fine lees or “sur lie” for two months with regular stirring, imparting a creamy texture and adding complexity to the final wine.
The Malagouzia grapes (pronounced Mah-lah-gou-ZYA) come from a singlevineyard site, known as “Turtles” because it is a nesting site for the local turtle population. The soil is sandy clay with excellent drainage.
Alpha Estate is located in Amyndeo, North West Greece. It is the brainchild of two visionaries, second generation vine grower Makis Mavridis and Bordeaux trained wine maker Angelos Iatrides.
